Abandoned Vehicles
An abandoned vehicle is ‘where it appears to a local authority that a motor vehicle is abandoned without lawful authority’.

In London the number of abandoned vehicles has been dropping each year, from 18.4 vehicles per 1,000 households in 2003/04 to 13.5 in 2005/06. In Newham abandoned vehicle rates increased, by 6 vehicles per 1,000 households between 2003/04 and 2004/05. However latest figures for Newham in 2005/06 show a reduction of 3.8 vehicles per 1,000 households.
Residents Satisfied with Local Parks
Data to measure resident satisfaction with local parks is collected via national user satisfaction surveys carried out every 3 years. A national target has been set by Central Government to increase the percentage of residents satisfied with local parks and open spaces - to increase the percentage of residents satisfied with local parks from its 2003/04 level by 4 percentage points nationally; and by 6 percentage points locally.

In London in 2003/04 69% of residents were satisfied with their local parks. In Newham this figure is slightly lower at 67% of residents satisfied with local parks .
Unacceptable levels of litter and detritus
Since 2004/05 information on municipal waste has been collected by DEFRA’s online system for quarterly waste. Local Authorities report their waste collection data. Centralised data collection is designed for local authorities to collect more accurate data and to compare their performance against other local authorities.

Between 2004/05 (27%) and 2005/06 (38%) unacceptable levels of litter and detritus had risen in Newham by 11 percentage points. The Mayor of Newham has identified Public Realm as an area where more needs to be done to reduce littering.
